Backyard Trampoline

By: John Furnem

Trampolines are a fun way to keep fit and get regular exercise. For children, a trampoline can be an exiting form of play. There are many different sizes and styles available. When choosing a back yard trampoline it is important to consider what size and shape trampoline will suit your backyard.

Different Types of Backyard Trampolines
There are three main types of trampolines available and they all come in varying sizes. There is a size and shape for everyone. The three types are:

* Round
This design is made to keep the person who is jumping in the center of the trampoline. This style is ideal for younger children, especially if a guard is used to stop falls.

* Rectangular
This design offers more area to jump on. The springs are also a lot more flexible which enables the person using the trampoline to jump higher. This type of trampoline is ideal for teenagers and is favored by professional trampoline jumpers and gymnasts.

* Square
This design is a lot like the rectangular trampoline but will not allow as high a bounce. The square trampoline is also a lot smaller. This is another good backyard option if there are smaller children using it.

It is recommended all trampolines that are being used by smaller children have proper guards and padding on the springs, and that adult supervision be provided for safety reasons. Also it is advisable that backyard trampolines not be bounced on when the jumping mat is wet since the mat can become very slippery.

The Cost of a Trampoline
Trampolines vary in cost a great deal depending on the size and style. For a smaller, round backyard Trampoline type without guards you could pay as little as $200. If you are looking for a trampoline that is a lot larger, for instance, a rectangular style, you could expect to pay up to $1,800. Prices will vary from store to store so the best thing to do when looking to buy a trampoline, is research different prices. Have a clear budget on how much you intend to spend. Choose a trampoline that fits your backyard and your budget.

What to Look For
The most important things to look for in a trampoline are:

* Structure
Make sure the structure of your trampoline is sturdy and, preferably, aluminum, so that it is not too heavy to move around should you need to.

* Quality mats are also very important.
A badly made trampoline mat can cause serious injury to a person if they were to fall through it.

* Added safety measures
It is important to make note of the companies that will either give you a discount on guards or padding for the springs or will give them to you as a packaged deal. Safety comes first!

* Warranties
Make sure your trampoline is covered by a warranty for faulty workmanship and badly made parts.

* Weight requirements
Make note of the maximum weight that the trampoline will hold as children often like to jump together or in groups.

Conclusion
There are many types of backyard trampolines available. Look around and find the best trampoline to suit your needs and your budget. Define exactly what you are looking for, such as who will be using the trampoline. Make sure the size and style will be suitable. If you are on a budget, it is advisable to look around and buy a trampoline that is on sale rather than 'cheap'. Don't sacrifice quality to save a few dollars, it is usually not worth it in the long run.

Advanced Trampolining Stunts Explained

As your skill in trampolining increases, you'll want to add more difficult stunts to your routines.

While you're learning these advanced stunts, protect yourself by using a safety belt, or have a spotter guide you. One of the most basic is the front somersault.

Learn it step by step. Begin with a simple lead-up stunt - a forward roll from a squat stand. Practice it a few times from a still position.

Then go through it from a slight bounce. Gradually add more bounce until you can do the forward roll in the air without letting your hands touch the bed.

And in a while you should be ready to go into a fuller lead-up to the front somersault - the knee drop front somersault to seat drop. From a standing bounce, land in a knee drop.

As you bounce up, flip forward, grabbing your shins while you duck your head. When your legs start to spin underneath you again...pull out of the tuck and land in a seat drop. Work on the timing of your spin until you hit the bed evenly every time. Then try it landing on your feet.

Now you can go on to the complete front somersault from a standing bounce. After bouncing off your feet, try to stay in your spin just a little longer so you will land back on your feet. Start with a regular bounce.

As you come up, grab your shins and go into a tight tuck. Your body spins faster in tuck position, making it easier to complete a somersault. When your legs are almost under you...pull out of the tuck and land on your feet, flexing your knees to help kill your spin. Always try to land near the same spot from which you started. That's the key to good somersaulting, whether it's forward...or backward, as in the back pullover. A complete stunt in itself, the back pullover is also a good lead-up to the back somersault.

Start the back pullover with a regular bounce, landing on the lower part of your back, your hands under your thighs.

Coming up from your bounce, pull back hard on your thighs, this starts you into a back pullover somersault that you continue...until your feet touch the bed. Then straighten up and land standing. After you learn the timing for a back pullover...you can try a complete back somersault... adding a little extra bounce so your spin will carry you all the way around to your feet again.

As you take off from the bed, straighten your body while lifting your arms and keeping your head back.

Then bring your knees up so your hands grasp your shins, pulling you into a tuck position. Spin through your somersault, and when your legs are almost under you again...straighten out and land on your feet. Work on the back somersault until you can safely do it without a spotter or belt.

Then you can go on to a little more difficult stunt...the barani. In the barani you start a front somersault, do a half-twist in mid air, and land on the bed facing in the opposite direction. But before trying a barani from a stand...lead up to it with a knee barani, using your hands. In this stunt, you go from a knee bounce into a half-twist and land on your knees in the opposite direction.

Start it with a knee drop landing. Keep your arms raised overhead, ready to place them on the bed. From the knee landing...bounce forward into a handstand position, kicking your legs overhead and keeping your arms straight. From the handstand, give yourself a half-twist... so your legs carry you on over and you land on your knees again, facing the other way.

After practicing it a few more times, you should be able to do the complete knee barani without letting your hands touch the bed.

There are many more advanced stunts, none of which can be learned over night. But by practicing them gradually and regularly, you'll find you can become a good trampoline performer and a valuable member of your gymnastic team.

The Most Fun You Can Have

The Trampoline - or - The Most Fun You Can Have With Your Clothes On!

In today’s culture of video games, television, and computer obsession, our youth spend entirely too much time inside the house doing nothing remotely physical. They are couch potatoes, mouse potatoes, or game controller potatoes. You name it and they can become mesmerized with movement on a screen. What can a parent do besides digging up the backyard and buying an expensive pool?

Parents can buy their little potatoes a trampoline. I know what you are thinking; the trampoline is old school equipment. People who think that a trampoline is so over don’t understand one major rule of life. Everything old becomes new again.

When the Jones family buys an outdoor trampoline for their chubby house potatoes, the Smiths will surely take notice. The Smiths will take notice and watch with wonder as the former lazy children suddenly seem to satisfy their craving for excitement with the trampoline rather than their indoor activities. The formerly chunky Jones kids become less so and also seem healthier. It won’t take long for the Smith children to start whining for their own outdoor or water trampoline. Now the trick here is to call the trampoline a fun machine. Never call it an exercise trampoline although mothers and fathers everywhere may find that they enjoy the exercise and jumps they do on the trampoline. That is, of course, if they can get the kids to give them a turn.

Problem solved or is it? You must keep the kids interested by purchasing a trampoline accessory at periodically. Never buy more than one trampoline accessory at a time. You must string out the trampoline accessory buying so that the newness never wears off. First you should buy a trampoline safety pad. I would buy this trampoline accessory before your kids are ever allowed on the trampoline. This is a great safety feature even if your kids are older.

The trampoline skirt adds security if you don’t want to go to the expense of buying the aforementioned trampoline accessory items. This trampoline accessory is usually metallic grey and wraps around the trampoline for added padding. This padding also reminds your child that he/she is getting too close to the edge. Buying this trampoline accessory will also add to the life of your trampoline.

You can purchase a trampoline accessory that will enable your child to play basketball. The trampoline basketball set is not overly expensive and adds a new dimension to your kids trampoline. You might even invent some games for your kids to play on their trampoline. You could teach them trampoline wrestling before they invent the games themselves and get hurt. You would provide the rules and promote safety first.

Particularly if you live in an area prone to rain, you might want to buy a weatherproofing trampoline accessory. The trampoline cover is your cheapest trampoline accessory for rainy areas. If you really want to keep your trampoline dry and warm and allow your children to jump on the trampoline despite damp conditions, you might want to buy a very unique trampoline accessory. Your children would love the trampoline tent. Not only will your kids love jumping on their trampoline covered by a cool tent, but they can play fort with this trampoline accessory.

Even though trampolines are great for kids, they are also wonderful exercise tools. The new trampoline net rebounder is one of the coolest exercise trampolines made today. This exercise trampoline is compact and meant for inside the house. A video with instructions on the best trampoline exercises is included with your trampoline net rebounder. Exercise has never been so much fun.

If you have a budding gymnast or cheerleader, the gymnastics trampoline is the best kind to buy. Your child will be able to practice jumps, mounts, and dismounts using this wonderful trampoline. If your soon-to-be gymnast or cheerleader is still young, start with a child trampoline. Don’t start with the largest trampoline on the market. Start with a child trampoline not a cheap trampoline. There is a major difference. The child trampoline is made with a child in mind. It is smaller and doesn’t present as many safety issues. Never leave a small child alone with a trampoline. Learn to use the trampoline first and then teach your child with his/her safety foremost in your mind.

A trampoline is a wonderful way to get your family to have fun in the backyard without spending thousands of dollars. Parents and children alike enjoy the bouncing and jumping that a trampoline allows you to do. Remember don’t tell your little potatoes that their bright, shiny trampoline is really an exercise tool. What they don’t know might change their mind about their latest toy.

Basketball Trampoline!

Basketball Trampoline! Now That Sounds like Fun

Doesn't a basketball trampoline sound like a lot of fun? You can usually find these trampolines available at fun plex's and other outdoor play areas. Buying a backyard trampoline is fairly easy, but finding one that you can play basketball with can be more difficult. A true basketball trampoline is long and rectangular and shaped like a gymnastic trampoline.

Types of trampolines that you can play basketball on

The two main types of basketball trampolines are the traditional rectangle type that has a basket on each end. This type comes in a variety of models and some might even have a partition in the middle. These basketball types of trampolines are usually professional quality and very expensive.

The other type of trampolines for sale that might be offered at a better price are regular round trampolines that have a basketball attachment. They are an enclosed trampoline similar in style to a regular kids trampoline but you can play basketball on them.

These regular trampolines can be called a rebounder or fun jumper as well. You will find these for sale at a variety of retail store, but you may have to purchase the basketball accessory separately.

Pricing

The sale price of your trampoline is an important aspect of your purchase. You don't want to spend more money buying trampolines than you have to. Shop around and look for the best price when you buy a trampoline. Don't settle for the first store that offers the type of trampoline that you are looking for. Instead keep a log of the prices at different stores and even consider looking online for a better price.

Using the Internet to your advantage

The Internet is a great place to find good deals on trampolines of all types and you can often get specials for discounted and free delivery. If you are interested in a large basketball type trampoline the Internet may be your only source for one. You might also consider asking around at amusement parks and other similar fun places.

If you find a place that is offering trampoline basketball, be sure to ask where they purchased their trampoline. The one they own may be fairly old, but the company is likely still around and probably selling even better basketball type trampolines. Again, use the internet to your advantage when searching for a good trampoline store.

Home Models

For your home trampoline you can usually find fun basketball accessories online. Try looking at online auction places and other specialty fun stores to find the best basketball equipment for you home trampoline.

Safety

It is important to only play basketball on a trampoline that has an enclosure around it. When you are playing basketball it is too difficult to have to worry how close you are to the edge of the trampoline. By having an enclosure around your trampoline you will ensure that if you jump too high ... you will still stay in the trampoline and not end up on the ground.

Health Benefits Of A Rebounder Trampoline

Author: Jill Brennan

This type of trampoline or rebounder is small in size which makes it suitable for indoor use so if you like exercising from home or you have young children or elderly parents and can't easily leave home to exercise then it is a useful piece of exercise equipment to have. Because of the cushioning impact of each movement it is gentler on your joints while still giving your body a good overall workout. The other key benefit is that they don't take up a lot of space and many models can be packed up to store flat under a bed or in a wardrobe or cupboard.

There are 3 main advantages in regularly using a rebounder trampoline:

Bouncing makes working out seem easier
You'll soon find that using your rebounder as your way of keeping healthy is more enjoyable than other high impact activities like jogging or skipping. The little life you get with each step is kind of like having your own coach encouraging you to keep going. Using a rebounder doesn't have to only be about bouncing up and down on the spot. There are a lot of workout routines available for sale that you can experiment with or you can put on some music of your own that you really like and make up your own routine.

A thirty minute workout 3 times per week is easier to do when you enjoy it and that's what you need to be doing to stay in good shape. If you use a rebounder trampoline, you could do the required amount activity just by bouncing.

2. Improved Muscle Strength
Regular jumping on a rebounder will tone and perfect your muscles. Jumping regularly for a workout session will help to strengthen the muscles in your legs and back, and will also improve your overall muscle tone. Why are strong muscles so important? You will have improved strength, a healthier body and best of all, the more muscles you have to more fat you burn so you will be increasing production on your very own fat burning furnace.

3. Increased Endurance
Regular jumping on a rebounder will improve your endurance as fast or as quickly as you want. If you are using a rebounder at home you can take your time to build up to 10 or 20 or 30 minute sessions or you can put on a workout DVD and let the instructor guide your efforts. After a few weeks you'll start to notice that you're not as puffed anymore and you can do things which may have been difficult before.

As with anything
1. It can stress an already weak bladder. If you already have a weak bladder then you know that bouncing is not the best thing you can do. If that is you and you'd like to be able to master it then start doing those kegels and then give it a try.

2. You need a good bra
Lots of bouncing is also not good if you are large breasted or find it difficult to find a good support bra. Again if you're unsure try before you buy.

3. Balance maybe a problem
If your balance is not great then buy a rebounder with a support bar.

If you do decide to purchase a rebounder then make sure you buy a well built product that is going to be able to comfortably take your weight and is easy to pack away if you have limited space.,If after reading the above you'd like to give a rebounder a try then make sure that you take your safety into consideration and only purchase something that has been well made. A cheaply made product will cost you dearly in the longer term if you get injured.

Trampoline mats to make your jump higher

Trampoline mats to make your jump higher & handsome.
By: Kevin Hall

Trampolines are not only a great source of amusement for children and of exercise for adults. Indeed, trampolines – and more specifically, trampoline mats – also pose a significant safety risk if they are not maintained, repaired, or replaced when necessary.
If your trampoline’s warranty has expired or if it never had one in the first place, and its mat has developed holes, rips, or cracks, it is a good idea to replace your trampoline.

Trampoline mats are a Fun Spot specialty. Offering the industry’s widest range of options for trampoline mats, Fun Spot leads the industry in quality, price and innovation.

Fun Spot is the only brand in the world ever to weave its own fabrics for trampoline mats. With over 350,000 Fun Spot trampoline mats sold, our innovative fabrics are time tested and second to none. Select among basic black, solid black performance weave and our exclusive targeted weave for added safety. Our trampoline mats are super-strong with burst strengths of 800-pounds per square inch. Fun Spot’s standard trampoline mats are sewn with 8-rows of heavy-duty UV-resistant thread and use galvanized triangular v-rings for long life.

We have over 35-years experience supplying trampoline mats compatible with Fun Spot, JumpKing, Hedstrom, NBF, Roadmaster, Flexible Flyer, Bollinger, Sky Bouncer, Bazoongi, Jump Pro, Magic Circle, Giant, Hercules, Sidlinger, Nissen and other brands.

We believe in our quality and back our trampoline fabric with the industry’s best warranty. While the fabric on other trampoline mats has a pro-rated warranty requiring customers to pay up to 90% of the replacement cost, Fun Spot trampoline fabric has the industry's only real 5-year warranty. Our heavy-duty stitching is warranted for a full two years.

Mentioned below are the options available for your existing Trampoline :
• Performance Weave
Rectangle and octagon trampoline mat customers can select between normal and performance weaves. Performance trampoline mat fabric has more porosity and delivers a slightly better bounce due to reduced air resistance while jumping. Performance trampoline mat fabric is made of black polypropylene and is not similar to competition grade Euro or Aussie string mats.

• Colored Fabrics
Add fun and style to your trampoline with our unique color options. Our colored fabrics are woven with a blend of colored and black yarns making the color intensity change with viewing angle. The fabrics reflect away more heat, making them cooler for tender feet. Be the first in your neighborhood to say no to boring black. Available in 4-Check Fabric, Half/Half Fabric, Deep Blue Fabric, Bermuda Green Fabric, Pecan Tan Fabric & Plum Purple Fabric.

• Targeted Safety Fabric
Fun Spot’s exclusive targeted safety fabric adds safety to every bounce. The unique targeted design helps jumpers remain in the center, the safest part of the trampoline. Center reference points are standard on all Olympic trampoline mats and this innovative fabric finally delivers this safety enhancement to your backyard. Unlike printed targets that always wear off, Fun Spot’s unique woven target provides a permanent safety advantage. Available for mats up to 12-ft 5-inches wide (165-cm).

• SunShield
Fun Spot’s SunShield™ adds years to the life of trampoline mats by protecting perimeter stitching from UV-exposure. Typically, the rows of stitching around the perimeter of trampoline mats last about 30% to 50% as long as the actual fabric. After this perimeter stitching fails, trampoline mats must be repaired or replaced. SunShield is a heavy-duty blue webbing, wider and heavier than seat belt webbing and it is sewn on top of the perimeter stitching of trampoline mats to protect them from UV-exposure. SunShield will approximately double the life of your structural stitching. While the stitching on basic trampoline mats is warranted for 2-years, SunShield extends this stitching warranty to 4-years. Color Selection: White, Pecan Tan, Black & Blue.

• DuraClip
Fun Spot’s patented composite DuraClips™ greatly prolongs the life of round trampoline mats by totally eliminating perimeter stitching, the weakest part of all trampoline mats. With stitching eliminated, so to is the need for periodic trampoline mat repair. This solution is perfect for families who live in high UV regions or who expect to use their trampoline mat for many years to come. DuraClips are warranted for 5-years and virtually eliminate the need for repairs. Available to only round trampolines mat buyers.

Springless Trampoline: Is It Better?

By: Jill Brennan

Trampolines--while a great way to exercise and have fun--can be dangerous. Many trampoline makers have changed their designs to use heavy-duty elastic bands rather than metal springs.

This has many advantages to the consumer, the most important being that one cannot get scraped or pinched by metal coils should they slip while on the trampoline. Although many regular trampolines have covers or pads covering the metal coils it is still possible for a foot or hand to slip under the protective padding. Another benefit is that the elastic will not rust when left out in the elements, unlike what happens to metal springs in the rain.

Why choose a spring free trampoline?

There are many advantages to getting a spring free trampoline, including greater ease of mat replacement, and that the trampoline will not rust or become over-stretched despite frequent use. The elastic bands are usually stronger than metal springs, because there are more of them to support the mat, and they will not become unsprung like metal coils can.

How much does a spring free trampoline cost?

Spring free trampolines usually cost about the same as a traditional trampoline. However, if you order the trampoline and have it shipped, the elastic bands on a spring free trampoline weigh a lot less than the metal coils which means you save on shipping costs.

With a converter, you can adapt a traditional metal spring trampoline into a springless trampoline. Purchasing converters and supplies from the same manufacturer can ensure success. Once converted, the cost for replacement supplies are close to the cost of replacement parts for a traditional trampoline.

Is a spring free trampoline strong?

The simple answer is yes. Made of high-grade elastic, they can provide even more bounce without the bounce back of metal springs. They are less likely to break, and they definitely do not rust. When left out in the elements, the elastic is protected from its natural enemy, the sun, by a wide cushioned band, and therefore, may only wear out in a few years time with heavy use. Unlike metal, which will get wet or damp and rust, the elastic bands are weather resistant when shielded from the sun.

When choosing a spring free trampoline, the key is quality. If you have a chance to view the trampoline before purchase, you will know quality when you see the stitching. High quality trampolines have extra-thick reinforcement anchored firmly with double stitching. Trampolines without springs are also quieter, since there are no metal grommets or squeaky springs.

Is An Exercise Trampoline Worth The Hype?

By: Christopher Smith

It's been quite a while since infomercials first invaded our TV and it is almost impossible not to watch them, at least for a few minutes. So, you have probably noticed that every once in a while a new exercise machine is created, capable of developing your mind and body in ways that no other machine could do it.

However, since many of these fitness machines can prove quite expensive, alternatives are now being offered by the same companies in order to win your business. Since most people don't have adequate space to fit a walking or running machine as a slightly less expensive option, something that's finding popularity is an exercise trampoline.

Things to Consider When Buying an Exercise Trampoline

Since an exercise trampoline is meant purely for fitness and not recreational fun, it's a lot smaller than your standard version, although still large enough for adults to use safely. Becoming more popular due to the cardiovascular treatment that they give your body, exercise trampolines are also easier to maintain than say an exercise bike or stepper would be, due to its lack of working parts.

But what should you take in account when buying one? The first issue to consider is the quality of the trampoline. Do not go for the cheap ones that are sold at some retail stores. Those sub-$100 devices may damage your joints and won't perform as they should. So forget about them.

If you budget to spend between $150 - $200, this should be more than adequate to get a good exercise trampoline. Also, don't be shy about testing one out – since you're going to be using it the most, make sure whatever one you buy is strong enough to take your weight. Any good sports store will let you do this.

Where Should I Look For An Exercise Trampoline?

There are two options. The first one and the recommended one for first timer buyers is a sports store like Sports Authority. If you have any questions a clerk can attend you immediately and may give valuable feedback on the experience of previous costumers.

If you're already using a sports trampoline, or done so in the past either at a gym or a friend's house, then you may want to consider using the Internet to buy one. This can often lead to some good savings against high street retailers, as well as allow you to compare models at a glance.

Leisure Kingdom trampolines, being US made , are well constructed items with galvanised steel frames to protect them from rain damage.

One way that you can extend the longevity of your trampoline is by purchasing a trampoline cover to fit securely over the top when it is not in use which protects it from the damaging effects of the sun and rain. Leisure Kingdom covers are available for the 12' or 14' round variety. A cover will also prevent leaves and other garden extras from gathering on the surface and you could also use it to send a clear message to all potential jumpers when the trampoline is not available to be used.

As much fun as it is enjoying your trampoline in summer, you need to make sure that you don't neglect your trampoline over the winter months. If the area where you live is prone to snow then you might want to think about taking the trampoline apart and storing the components inside. Or at the very least standing it securely on its side so that snow doesn't accumulate on the top and weigh down and stretch the springs.

Whether you decide to choose a Leisure Kingdom trampoline or another brand, I'm sure that you won't be disappointed in your decision to make regular bouncing a part of your family's life.

Indoor Trampolines Review

Carl Walker

An indoor trampoline is significantly smaller than those used outdoors and with good reason. Unless you have a gymnasium in your house with 20 foot ceilings then you are unlikely to have space to fit a large trampoline indoors. Mini trampolines can be used inside or out.

Indoor Trampolines And Mini Trampolines

Indoor trampolines, also known as mini-trampolines, are small trampoline kits designed for children between 3 to 7 years old. They are available in many sizes but most of them are portable and smaller than regular trampolines. Average height is about 9 -11 inches off the ground and may be circular, rectangular or square in shape.

Since many emergency room-treated injuries are related to trampoline jumping, before letting kids use indoor trampolines (though smaller and look more harmless), all safety precautions should be taken. Adequate adult supervision is also imperative for all types of trampolines if it involves kids in the trampoline activity.

Urban Rebounder Trampoline
Indoor trampolines may also be used as a bouncing device by gymnasts or stuntmen to be catapulted into the air. Professional indoor, or Olympic style trampolines, have a webbed surface and are generally much more expensive. They also need folding down and are not suitable for outdoors. Other indoor trampolines may also be used as fitness and weight loss tools.

Popular Indoor Trampoline Models:

Nursery Trampoline: This indoor trampoline has a grip handle, and is designed to encourage children to exercise and keep fit. The model is suitable for outdoor use too. It is also equipped with a weatherproof mat and tubular steel frame with a durable coated finish. The padded cover around the mat cushions the frame and prevents children from stepping through the bungee cord for extra safety. Costs around $100 to $135.

Joey Trampoline: is designed to help kids learn balance and coordination with the assistance of a handlebar, which can be removed as the child gets older and bigger. It features 6 steel feet, anti-slip rubber pads, a powder-coated steel frame, heavy-duty jumping mat, and strong padded foam cushion frame cover for extra safety. Approximate cost - $60 to $70.

Child Sport Fit Trainer: Manufactured by Texas Trampoline, the jumping surface of this indoor trampoline is woven Permatron material, and has extra wide, deluxe safety pads that cover the frame and the springs. It's an 8-foot square and 24 inches high trampoline which can also be used by adults who want to stay in shape. No additional tools are required for assembly. It costs around $600, and is one of the most expensive indoor trampolines.

Soft-Bounce Rebounder: A product from Needak, it has a surface diameter of 28.5 inches and a Permatron mat rebounding surface, with protective, spring cover padding, and is intended for indoor, aerobic use by adults. The rebounder comes in a folding or non-folding model. Purchase also includes a video, book, article, and a carrying bag. Costs around $120 to $180.

TP Medium Junior Trampoline: Features a detachable handle which can be used when the trampoline is used by more than one child. Designed to improve co-ordination, balance skills and spatial awareness of the child through play. Made from galvanized steel frame and tough mesh mat that allows rain to fall through. Costs around $60 to $70.

Using An Urban Rebounder

Advantages & Disadvantages Of Using An Urban Rebounder

A rebounder trampoline is a great way to work out especially if you're concerned about the possible negative effect of high impact exercise on your joints. It is also great if you want to workout in your own home and don't have much space for exercise equipment. Many rebounder trampolines can be folded and put away when not in use and can be used inside as you don't bounce so high that you will hit the roof though of course if makes sense to put it away from any hanging light fittings or ceiling fans.

There are 3 main advantages in regularly using a rebounder trampoline:

1. Its a great workout.
Using your rebounder trampoline as part of your exercise routine can make keeping fit more fun. The bounce you get with each move is like extra encouragement to keep going. There are many different routines available for sale that you can try or you can put on some music and make up your own.

To be healthy its recommended that you need to do 30 minutes of vigorous activity about three times a week. Jogging is a popular choice but isn't for everyone. If you were to use a rebounder trampoline, you could sustain the 30 minutes of activity just by continually jumping on the trampoline. This activity means your heart will beat faster in order to help the blood pump throughout the body. As a result your heart rate will rise and your body will be getting a good heart strengthening workout.

As with anything, it is not all rosy. The main disadvantages of using a mini trampoline are:

1. Not great if you have a weak bladder or pelvic floor muscles.
If your pelvic floor muscles aren't too strong then the last thing you want to be doing is lots of bouncing up and down, even though bouncing on a rebounder is gentler than bouncing up and down on the spot. Instead focus on doing your kegels and then when they are back in good shape give the mini trampoline a try. If you're not sure whether you're OK then try a couple of bounces on one at a gym or in the shop to see how you go.

2. You need a good bra
Lots of bouncing is also not good if you are large breasted or find it difficult to find a good support bra. Again if you're unsure try before you buy.

3. Balance maybe a problem
If your balance is not great then buy a rebounder with a support bar.

If you do decide to purchase an Urban Rebounder then make sure you buy a well built product that is going to be able to comfortably take your weight and is easy to pack away if you have limited space.

Trampolines For Grown Ups

Urban Rebounders: Trampolines For Grown Ups
ohann Erickson

Bouncing on a trampoline isn't only for children and isn't just an outdoor activity. The smaller trampolines available now are perfect for use indoor and even have their own name...

Come Bounce on the Urban Rebounder

As a child, jumping on a trampoline can provide hours of entertaining fun. Being bounced into the air like you weighed nothing at all, then landing with all the grace of an Olympic gymnast, there was nothing that brought more pleasurable enjoyment then the simple device known as a trampoline. As an adult, the same piece of equipment that made you feel light-headed all summer long is now getting a new image as the next step in the every-changing world of exercise.

Although the trampolines being marketed today are a mini-version (sized for only one person) of the trampolines children generally bounce on, they are purported to have the same fat-burning abilities as the larger-sized ones. In fact, the American Council on Exercise has recently predicted that rebounding (a phrase referring to the full-body exercise that can be achieved using nothing but a mini-trampoline) is fast becoming one of the hottest fitness trends today. Websites with exercise tips, complete with diagrams and full descriptions, abound on the Internet. There are also rebounding classes available at many fitness centers around the country where you can learn the proper positions and movements necessary to maximize your fitness regiment.

One of the leading mini-trampolines on the market today is the Urban Rebounder. Made from a strong woven mat surface and sporting a 28 inch diameter surface, the Urban Rebounder can sell for upwards of $300 in most retail stores, with a package including three DVD's and a carrying bag being offered on television for $340. There are two types of Urban Rebounders available today, one for home use and one for gym use. The only real difference between the two is that the home trampoline is built to hold 300 pounds of weight, while the gym trampoline can hold up to 350 pounds. Unlike the trampolines of your youth, the Urban Rebounder is woven much tighter, and therefore a bounce of only two to three inches is typically possible. That small bounce is more than sufficient enough to work you're the muscles in your legs and abdominals, however. According to Healthbounce.com, working on the Urban Rebounder can burn up to 700 calories in just one hour.

Exercising on a trampoline also has health benefits beyond burning calories. Because the soft surface of the trampoline absorbs a high percentage of the shock that would normally hit your feet when bouncing or running on a hard surface, your joints are better protected from wear and tear to your joints associated with most workouts. Less injury to your joints means less pain after your workouts, which also means you are more likely to keep up a regular exercise routine. Often those starting out on other regiments will hurt themselves and give up altogether. With the Urban Rebounder, keeping up with a daily exercise routine can be enjoyable, instead of painful. Unlike the majority of aerobic exercises available today, which are primarily geared towards women, men can enjoy the health benefits of the Urban Rebounder as well. The Urban Rebounder is also safe for children as long as an adult is supervising.

There are plenty of reasons to try out a mini-trampoline like the Urban Rebounder; your health, the health of your spouse and/or children, and the simple enjoyment that can be received from bouncing. So refresh those memories of summer days long past and get out there and bounce, bounce, bounce!

All About Urban Rebounders

Perhaps you've seen people jumping around on some infomercial and wondered what they are doing and why are they doing it. They are most likely advertising a product called an Urban Rebounder. What is it exactly?

An Urban Rebounder is a mini trampoline specially designed to exercise on. Some come with a support rail so if your balance isn't great then you have something to hold onto until you get the hang of it. An Urban Rebounder is much smaller than a regular trampoline and is only a step up off the ground, high enough to that the matting won't touch the ground when you bounce but not too high that you feel unsafe. Unlike a regular full-size trampoline, an Urban Rebounder only fits one person at a time.

Think of an Urban Rebounder as your own personal workout equipment that is portable, cost effective and requires virtually no maintenance. A mini trampoline can be used inside or out depending on the weather and your own preference. Unlike other exercise equipment like a treadmill or stationary bike it doesn't require regular servicing and have ongoing running costs. Most rebounders can be easily folded away when not in use and are cheap alternatives to some of the exercise equipment available for home use. Some come with an exercise video to give you ideas on what to do on your trampoline and provide the motivation you may need to get started.

What should you look our for with an Urban Rebounder?

The main thing is quality. Make sure that you buy an Urban Rebounder that is strong and well made. The last thing you want is for the matting or springs to give way when you are using it.

The other is safety. Make sure that the trampoline springs are fully covered with padding.

If you are new to bouncing then it would be a good idea to purchase one with mini trampoline exercises. You may enjoy bouncing and doing your own thing but you may also find you need more variety to keep you stimulated.

Where Can You Purchase An Urban Rebounder?

You have two choices - you can either get yours from a specialty sport store or from an online retailer.

The main advantage of buying one a store is that if you have any questions a sales representative can answer you immediately and may give valuable feedback on the experience of previous costumers.

However, buying online is great if you know what you want and don't want the fuss of hauling it home yourself. You can get it delivered right to your door without any hassle.

Skybouncer Trampoline

Have you heard of a Skybouncer trampoline and wondered what it is? Or perhaps youve seen them before but dont really know what is so great about them. The best thing about having your own skybouncer trampoline is that you can jump really high. They arent cheap so it took me and my friends awhile to save up for ours. For awhile there it seemed to dominate our conversations when we got together, we were that excited about it and couldnt wait for it to finally arrive!

Whats so great about it? Well, apart from being able to soar up into the air, it has lots of features we really like - it even has a safety net, just in case we fall or bounce off, and padding so that the trampoline springs arent exposed, and its round which seems to make more sense somehow than a rectangular shaped trampoline.

How We Saved Up for The Skybouncer Trampoline.

Our budget was really tight but my friends and I had decided that we needed more exercise. Too many chips, not enough fruit was the way my mom put it. Now we werent about to upend our diet so instead we made a list of fun things to do to get fit. At the very top of the list was a sky bouncer trampoline. Mom thought it was a great idea too because she knows that bouncing is good for you as she regularly does mini trampoline exercises as her work out.

One of my friends, Petra, wanted one so much that she worked out a budget we could all follow in order to save up for one. It took a few months, but finally we were able to pool our savings together to come up with the money. Then we had to decide who was going to keep it at their place.

Where We Put Our Skybouncer Trampoline.

My friends and I got together to work out who should be the caretaker. We all decided it was best to keep it at my house, because I have a really big backyard and my house was equally between all my friends houses, so it is easy for everyone to get to.

Tony picked up the sky bouncer trampoline on Friday. Julie, Petra, Tony, and I got together on Sunday to start assembling it. We wanted to set it up on Saturday, but it was raining. When we were finished putting it together on Sunday it started to rain, so we ran inside and had some hot chocolate and played games. When it got late, we decided to go home in time for dinner and when we looked outside we all started laughing.

Who Was the First to Use Our New Skybouncer Trampoline?

Tony was the first to use our skybouncer trampoline, his reward for picking it up from the shop. Well after the squirrel that is! When the guys came over and we had to go inside because of the rain, we were talking about who was going to use it and happened to glance outside. We saw a squirrel climbing up the netting and jumping down on the trampoline. We laughed so hard our sides hurt. We knew he was just trying to get out, but it was so funny to see him using our trampoline. We stood in the light, misty rain for a few minutes and watched him figure out how to get off the trampoline, making sure he didnt get stuck in the trampoline springs, and far away from us.

Finally, on the Monday night we got together and jumped on our skybouncer trampoline. It was great fun. Id recommend it to anyone (if you can't get a skybouncer, a leisure kingdom trampoline is also really good, that was our second choice)

What I like about it, apart from soaring through the air in between each bounce, is that it is a great social thing to do. Ive seen more of my friends in the last month than I have all year. And were exercising at the same time. I never thought working out on our sky bouncer trampoline (if you could really call laughing and bouncing working out?) could be so much fun. Weve been playing around with the sprinkler too which is great on these hot evenings.

Option For Inactive Kids

Mini Trampolines: A Great Exercise Option For Inactive Kids?
Denise Nero

It seems that not a day goes by when there isn't yet another article about the growing obesity problem facing many of our children. TV, computers and video games have become so enticing that it is often difficult to motivate children to be active and burn off some of that excess energy.

Trying to get your kids off the couch? Let them jump on a mini trampoline

Are you concerned about your kids sitting around the house too much? Do they spend their day watching TV, playing video games or surfing the net? Are they turning into couch potatoes? As a parent you know how hard it is to get your child to do something good for their health. Heck, you probably haven't been able to get them to eat carrots since they were toddlers, how are you supposed to convince them to go to the gym, or for a run. The key is finding an exercise that they enjoy, so they will continue to exercise and make it a lifetime habit. This is where the mini trampoline comes in.

Do you remember how much fun you had jumping on the bed as a kid? The Mini Trampoline, or Urban Rebounder lets your kids have the same fun experience without ruining your mattress or getting hurt from a fall off the bed.

The mini trampoline is one of the most versatile pieces of exercise equipment. You kids can jump on it in front of the television, or outside, and when it's not in use, it easily fits in a closet or even under the bed.

Let's look at some of the benefits of working out on the Mini Trampoline

It's a low impact form of exercise
Burns more calories than jogging
Improves circulation
Gives you a great cardio workout
Strengthens your legs and thighs
Improves balance and coordination
Its very portable
Above all, it is A LOT OF FUN!!!!.

Don't think rebounding is just for kids. You'll get a great workout out of this as well. The mini trampoline is perfect for your entire family and a great investment in your health and fitness as well. It helps you burn fat and calories fast, but also works great when it comes to strength training. Your biggest problem will be to get a turn to work out. (We suggest you wait until the kids are in school).

When you are shopping for a mini trampoline look for a model with six legs. It will be a lot more stable than some of the cheaper four legged models. If you're just starting out and also as an extra safety precaution, look for a model with a stabilizer bar.

We suggest the Urban Rebounder at http://www.fitnessandkids.com/urban-rebounder.html. You'll receive the complete kit including the stabilizer bar, carrying case and workout videos. Everything you need to get you started.

Garden Trampoline

Have You Thought About a Garden Trampoline?

If you're looking for a fun outdoor activity for the whole family to enjoy then you should consider getting a garden trampoline. These days there seem to be so many activities which keeps use indoors, like video games, the internet, playstations and the huge number of self-entertainment systems that most children seem to have. Many of these activities are sedentary in nature and also are usually solitary pursuits. It can seem like there is few active things that you do together. This is where a trampoline can be a useful asset to any family.

Of course, trampolines aren't only for children. The grown ups can use it too as it is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time. Using one of these trampolines can provide many benefits to people of all ages. A trampoline is a great way for kids to burn off that excess energy, and healthier too than throwing that energy into than fighting each other. By using a trampoline, children and adults can have a place to go to relax, have fun, and get in better shape.

How Can You Use Garden Trampolines?

There are several uses for a garden trampoline. Children and adults can use the garden trampoline for pleasure as well as exercise. Its easy enough to use and there are several levels of usage available. For more intermediate jumpers, a trampoline can provide plenty of chances for tricks, different jumping styles, and all kinds of interesting manoeuvres. The more advanced jumpers can graduate to various tricks, such as flips and different landing styles, which focus on different muscle groups and need much more control in order to execute. Beginners can simply jump and enjoy the feeling of leaving the ground.

Garden Trampoline Benefits

A trampoline can be fun and exciting. Garden trampolines can also be used for physical therapy sessions as they can help a person improve their motor control. Trampolines have been used for years for physical therapy, and a trampoline can provide the same level of therapy in someones backyard. A garden trampoline can raise the heart rate, provide a place for vigorous activity, and strengthen muscles as one uses it to jump.

Don't Forget About Garden Trampoline Safety

There are many reasons to be cautious, but as long as a person uses a garden trampoline with safety in mind, there should be no problems. Parents should set limits to the number of children allowed to use the trampoline at one time, and should make sure that their children understand that the trampoline is something which should be used with caution.

Trampolines can be so much fun that it isn't unusual for kids to forget about the importance of being safe while bouncing. Parents need to supervise children when they are using a garden trampoline and together with their children work out the rules and regulations of use.

Caring For Your Trampoline

Jeff

While rebounders are hardy and built to last, there are things that you can do to both keep your trampoline safe and to increase the longevity of your equipment. It is worth doing as it isn't expensive and will save you both time, money and visits to casualty in the longer term.

Trampoline Safety Pad and Accessories

Trampolines are designed exclusively for the home backyard market. Trampolines, being rebounding devices, propel the performer to unaccustomed heights and into a variety of body movements. The vast majorities of users of trampolines are children, and therefore need close supervision and rules to follow while playing on the trampoline.

A vital element to safe trampolining is found with the safety pad. Quality manufactured safety pads are constructed utilizing a 1" single layer of closed cell polyethylene foam and are covered with a vinyl fabric exterior which is mildew resistant. The pads should be attached via straps, and or, straps and buckle combinations.

Neither spring covers, nor simple frame pads made with layers of foam padding and stapled together, offer the jumper adequate protection against falling through the springs, onto the springs, or from impact with the frame.

SAFETY PADS ARE NEITHER DESIGNED NOR INTENDED TO BE USED AS SEATS OR STEPS. DO NOT SIT ON OR STEP ON THE SAFETY PADS!!! FAILURE TO ENFORCE THIS RULE MAY CAUSE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO THE PADS.

Recommended weight limitation for trampolining is no more than 200 lbs. Persons at, or near, this weight should test the resiliency of the springs prior to extensive bouncing. This can be done by jumping lightly on the mat.

If the resiliency appears to be weak, discontinue bouncing immediately, take off the springs and inspect them. If the springs appear to be stretched out of shape, the mat should not be put back on until the springs have been replaced. Be sure and check the mat for any restitching or DURACLIPS that may need replacing.

Its Time To Replace Them?

Trampoline Springs: How Do You Know When Its Time To Replace Them?
Niall Roche

If you have a trampoline with springs rather than one of the newer spring free trampolines then there will come a time when you will need to replace them. When you think about it, the springs have a lot of work to do and there are left out in the weather for most of the year which helps to speed up the deterioration process.

Is It Time To Replace Your Trampoline Springs?

As you bounce up in the air for the hundredth time, you may be wondering how your trampoline works. There are two things that work together to make you bounce. The trampoline springs and mat combine to create the proper tension to enable you to bounce when you jump. However, exactly how high you bounce depends directly on exactly how strong the springs around your trampoline's edges are.

All trampoline springs should pass the American Society for Testing and Material standards before they are used on a trampoline. These springs are made with a high quality piece of wire that has been made stronger through a process called galvanization. The galvanized wire is coiled and then is cut to the proper length to form springs.

With each bounce someone takes on the trampoline, stress is placed on the springs. This is why using the strongest wire available is a good idea. Even with high quality wire, the springs will weaken and stretch over time. You should take a look at your trampoline every month to be sure the springs look sturdy and are not rusty. To help keep the springs working well longer, cover the entire trampoline with a tarp when it is not in use and consider spraying the metal with WD40 or a similar anti-rust product. The reason keeping your trampoline springs in good working order is so important is that they could snap at a weakened or rusted point as someone is bouncing away on the trampoline.

While you may want to go right to your trampoline's manufacturer when you replace springs, you can also go to an online store that sells replacement parts. Two well known spring brands are Ultra Bounce and DDI Sports.

Of course, when you buy your replacement springs, you want to be sure you get ones that actually fit your trampoline. To find out which size you should shop for, remove a spring from the trampoline and measure it from one hook to the other. You should take your measurement in inches, since that is how these replacement parts are sold. You may actually want to measure two or three springs in case one of them is really stretched out to be sure you have the right measurement.

Once you have your measurements, you can shop for replacement springs. There are many great replacements parts suppliers operating online and you can find more information on them by following the resources section at the end of this article.

Your trampoline springs won't last forever and you're going to need new trampoline springs sooner or later. Check out trampoline springs for sale online at http://www.totaltrampoline.com

Trampoline Safety

Trampolines often are described as fun for kids and a way to get exercise. However, an estimated 100,000 people were injured on trampolines in 1999. That is almost triple the number of people injured in 1991. Most of these injuries happened on home trampolines.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that trampolinesnever be used at home, in routine gym classes, or on playgrounds.

Trampolines can be very dangerous. Almost two-thirds of the people injured from trampolines are children ages 6 through 14 years. Common injuries include the following:

* Broken bones (sometimes needing surgery)
* Concussions and other head injuries
* Sprains/strains
* Bruises, scrapes and cuts
* Neck and spinal cord injuries that can result in permanent paralysis or death also occur

Children can be hurt on trampolines in many ways. Most injuries result from the following:

* Landing wrong while jumping
* Attempting stunts
* Colliding with another person on the trampoline
* Falling or jumping off the trampoline
* Landing on the springs or frame of the trampoline

Adult supervision will not adequately prevent injuries on home trampolines. Trampolines should be used only in supervised training programs for gymnastics, diving or other competitive sports. A professional trained in trampoline safety always should supervise the use of trampolines.

Don't risk it! Find out if your children's friends have trampolines before sending them over to play. Children and teenagers should never use trampolines at their home or another person's home, in routine gym classes or on the playground!

Trampoline Buyer's Guide

by Kiddie Toys

Before purchasing a trampoline, a buyer must decide on size, shape, and budget. Trampolines can be dangerous if not properly used, so the location where trampoline will be placed for safety reasons should also thought through before deciding on the size and the model.

Size of trampolines range from 8ft in diameter to 16ft. The most popular sizes are 10ft trampolines (20%), 12ft trampolines (30%) and 14ft trampolines (35%) with mini and other size trampolines making up the rest (15%). Trampolines come in various shapes: rectangular, octagon, square and circle. Of the four shapes, the rectangular shape offers the most safety whereas circular offers the least safety although circular trampolines are most popular. Please read Trampoline Shapes & Safety article for details.

Before deciding on the size of trampoline, ask yourself how many people will be on a trampoline at a time. A 10 ft trampoline would be suitable for a single teenager, or two small children and occasional use by a single adult. A 12ft trampoline would be suitable for a couple of children, and regular use by adults. A 14ft trampoline would allow regular use by two or more children and adults. The larger trampolines allow more maximum weight.

As a potential trampoline buyer, you should carefully consider the space available in your backyard. A 12ft trampoline on the ground will look considerably bigger when it is assembled an on the 3ft above ground. Make sure you have at least 3ft extra space all around the trampoline so there is safe landing space if children do topple off from the trampoline. So, if you are looking for a 12ft trampoline, you will need a space of approximately 18ft diameter with no overhanging branches where the trampoline can stand.

Trampolines can cause injury if not used properly. Try avoiding cheap nylon trampolines, and purchase a quality trampoline with safety nets and safety mats (beds). Here are a few things to consider when choosing the materials.

1. Pick a trampoline with a mat that is made out polypropelene. Polypropelene mats are more durable, weather resistant and do not warp if left outdoor. Extensive exposure to sun will not harm polypropelene mats as opposed to nylon mats.

2. Pick a trampoline with prefitted, triple-tiered and thick springs. Prefitted springs stay tighter and don't fall off when you travel. Tripple-tiered springs give a more even bounce than the single-tiered springs. Replacing a single-tiered spring with triple-tiered spring at a later time will not have the same effect.

3. Look for polymer plastic leg tip that won't scratch the floors. Polymer typically holds up for years as compared to rubber tips which may crack after a year.

4. Decide on folding vs. non-folding model. In general, folding and non-folding models are equally stable. The quality of rebounder is determined by the type of springs, the mat, the stitching, the welding, and the finishing. In recent years, folding models are more popular as they are more portable. If you do decide to get a folding model, try getting the one with C-channel locking over the hindges.

5. Pick a trampoline with a stable 6 leg design. A cheaper 4 leg models are known to topple over. Also, unscrewable legs makes it easier to store during off season.
